Comedy Movies that will tickle your funny bone!
1. Rush Hour (1998) –
Director- Brett Ratner
Genre- Action, Comedy, Crime
Cast- Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Ken Leung (among others)
Plot– Considered as one of the best comedy movies of all time. During the last days of Hong Kong’s British colonial era, a great cop Chan busts up a smuggling ring. The masterminds escape to the United States, where they kidnap the Chinese consul’s daughter. The FBI wants Chan’s help, but they also want him out of their way. So they pair him up with Tucker’s slightly out-of-his-mind cop, Detective James Carter (Slightly out of mind may be an understatement, if you know you know). Neither cop likes teamwork, but they choose to work together when they realize they’ve been ditched by both the FBI and the LAPD.
Chan’s stunts are, as always, a highlight. He leaps from double-decker buses to overhead traffic signs, scales walls, and slides down silk streamers. And Tucker? Well, he’s the guy who roars around in a vintage Corvette, works undercover, and talks faster than a caffeinated auctioneer guy.
Rush Hour is a non-stop thrill ride. If you have watched Jackie Chan’s famous movies like City Hunter, you probably know him already. You are aware of his style of action, but James Carter’s comedy is proven to be a Cherry-on-top.
2. Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) –
Director- Chris Columbus

Plot- Been a Robin Williams fan since Jumanji, but this movie is something else (Trust me!). Hold on to your sides! Mrs. Doubtfire is a laugh riot with Robin Williams in top form. He transforms from a goofy dad into a hilarious nanny, complete with outrageous disguises and madcap situations. The whole family will be giggling as they watch him juggle his identities, with a heartwarming message about the importance of family snuck in for good measure. It’s a classic comedy that will have you saying “Hello!” to laughter for days. Indeed, one of the best family comedy movies out there.
3. Kung Fu Hustle (2004) –
Director- Stephen Chow
Genre- Action · Comedy · Fantasy
Cast- Danny Kwok-Kwan Chan, Siu Lung Leung, Stephen Chow, Tze-Chung Lam, Wah Yuen, Xianogang Feng (among others)
Plot- Buckle up for a good action-comedy movie Kung Fu Hustle, a wild ride that blends classic kung fu action with laugh-out-loud silliness. Stephen Chow throws everything at the wall – over-the-top special effects, wacky characters, and absurd gags – and somehow it all sticks. This isn’t your typical martial arts action movie. Get ready for giggling at noodle attacks, kung fu masters disguised as extras, and showdowns that defy the laws of physics. It’s a hilarious, action-packed adventure that will leave you wanting more. Also, the famous throwing knives, fight scenes are a treat to watch (So unconventional!).
4. Crazy Rich Asians (2018) –
Director- Jon M. Chu
Genre- Comedy, Drama, Romance
Cast- Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh (among others)
Plot- Crazy Rich Asians is a rom-com with a sprinkle of Cinderella and a whole lot of bling. New York economics professor Rachel Chu joins her boyfriend Nick on a trip to Singapore, only to discover he’s from a family that’s filthy rich (somewhat like the Ambanis of Singapore). Get ready for stunning visuals of private islands and designer everything, as Rachel navigates a world of gossipy relatives, disapproving mothers, and enough drama to fill a fortune cookie factory. It’s a fun escape that’s both hilarious and heartwarming, proving that love can conquer even the craziest rich Asians. This has to be a good comedy movie to watch on your bucket-list this weekend.
5. Spy (2015) –
Director- Paul Feig
Genre- Action, Comedy
Cast- Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Jude Law (among others)
Plot- Melissa McCarthy throws off her usual comedic persona and transforms into a fierce, unlikely CIA agent. Expect laugh-out-loud action sequences, witty banter, and a healthy dose of girl power. Think James Bond meets Bridesmaids, with a side of international intrigue. Gear up for a wild ride that proves sometimes the best weapon you have is a sharp wit and a whole lot of self-confidence. Overall, a good movie to add to your Hollywood Comedy movies list.
6. Bridesmaids (2011) –
Director- Paul Feig
Genre- Comedy
Cast- Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne (among others)
Plot- Bridesmaids ditches the fluffy wedding tropes and throws a hilarious bachelorette party gone wrong. Kristen Wiig shines as the perpetually single Annie, whose attempts to be the best maid of honor for her BFF turn into a hilariously competitive showdown with the ultra-glamorous Helen (Rose Byrne). Expect food fights, airplane antics, and enough awkward moments to make you cringe with laughter. It’s a refreshingly honest look at female friendships, proving bridesmaids can be just as messy (and way funnier) as the groomsmen (Aren’t we women aware of that already).
7. Ratatouille (2007) –
Ratatouille from Ratatouille movie
Director- Brad Bird, Jan Pinkava
Genre- Animation · Adventure · Comedy · Family · Fantasy
Cast- Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livingston
(among others)
Plot- Forget the rat race, Remy the rat’s in a flavor race (this was a good one, right)! This delightful Pixar gem whisks you to Paris where a determined rat with a gourmet palate partners with a clumsy garbage boy to create culinary magic. “Anyone can cook,” proclaims the motto, and Ratatouille proves it with mouthwatering animation and a heartwarming story. Get ready for a recipe for laughter, a dash of suspense, and a heaping helping of inspiration that will leave you saying, “I’ll try anything once!”. The rat isn’t just cute but also supremely talented, he makes you wonder whether we humans give up too easily. Nonetheless, it is a good family comedy movie you can surely watch with your children.
8. Home Alone (1990) –
Director- Chris Columbus
Genre- Comedy · Family
Cast- Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern,
John Heard, Roberts Blossom (among others)
Plot- Home Alone is a Christmas classic that’s aged about as well as a perfectly-preserved cheese pizza. Macaulay Culkin is adorable as Kevin, the mischievous kid accidentally left behind when his family jets off for the holidays. Laughter reigns supreme as Kevin transforms his house into an elaborate trap haven to stop bumbling burglars Harry and Marv (played by the iconic duo of Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern). It’s a hilarious underdog story with a pinch of holiday cheer, perfect for warming your heart (and always remember to double-check the house before vacation). Can easily feature in my top 10 comedy movies.
9. The Nutty Professor (1996) –
Director- Tom Shadyac
Genre- Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi
Cast- Eddie Murphy, Jada Pinkett Smith, James Coburn, Larry Miller (among others)
Plot- The Nutty Professor is a laugh-a-minute ride with Eddie Murphy at his comedic peak. He transforms from a kind-hearted but overweight professor into the obnoxious yet smokin’ Buddy Love, thanks to a wacky weight-loss formula. Get ready for hilarious scene-stealing moments as Murphy portrays a whole cast of characters, from Sherman’s shy mama to the smothering granny. This laugh-fest tackles themes of self-acceptance and inner beauty, all wrapped up in a side-splitting package. It’s a 90s comedy movie classic that makes you laugh-out-loud.
10. Mean Girls (2004) –
Director- Mark Waters
Genre- Comedy
Cast- Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, Tim Meadows (among others)
Plot- Burn books, fetch phrases, and Regina George’s endless shade – “Mean Girls” is a teen comedy classic that still packs a hilarious punch. Lindsay Lohan shines as Cady Heron, a homeschooled girl who infiltrates the Plastics, a group of popular but ruthless girls led by the queen bee Regina George (Rachel McAdams). But the lines between friend and frenemy blur as Cady gets sucked into their manipulative world. Plastics beware, this movie is a laugh riot with quotable lines galore, a pinch of teen drama, and the ultimate message: being yourself is the best revenge. You’ll be quoting “On Wednesdays we wear pink!” for weeks (like I did after first watching this).
